About Us

WUWU began in the fall of 1999 as a small group of women enthusiastic about Ultimate and was recognized as a UPA College Team in 2000.  The spring 2001 season culminated in a hard-earned trip to Nationals, and we've been working to get back there ever since.  In the fall of 2005, WUWU won its first tournament at Elephantitis in Grinell, IA.  That spring, we took seven girls to Fayetteville, AR to win Savage Seven.  In the spring of 2007, WUWU won its spring break tournament, Flava Fest, in Richmond, IN, and we placed third in the South Region.  In the spring of 2008, we won Frostbite in Springfield, MO and placed 5th in the region.  This fall we won Glory Days in Lowell, IN.  With several very experienced vets and a large group of excited, talented recruits, we hope to continue to build on our success in the spring of 2009.

Key Organizers
Abby Stephens is a co-captain of Washington University Women's Ultimate (WUWU).  She has played for the team since Fall 2005, and this is her third year as a co-captain.  She was also a cutter for the St. Louis-based mixed team One Trick Pony this past club season.  During the summers, it's guaranteed that Abby will be playing St. Louis summer league and will be the last to leave the field, playing 500 by moonlight.

Kate Stambaugh
is another one of WUWU's captains.  She has played for the team since Fall 2005, and this is her third year as co-captain.  She was voted as an All-Region player and Freshman of the Year in 2006, and she's known throughout the South Region for her ridiculous inside-out lefty backhand and her all-around athletic play.

Hannah Clements
is WUWU's third captain.  She has played for the team since Fall 2006 and is working hard on getting sponsorships for Throwdown so that we can provide all of you with some sweet extras.

Kate Wilson
is WUWU's tournament director.  She has played for the team since Fall 2006 and is a force to be reckoned with.  We call her Deuce to avoid confusion with Captain Kate.

Michelle Ng is a Texas Melee alum.  She previously played for UC Berkeley from 2004-2006, captaining the team in 2006 and finishing top 3 in the nation's 2006 Callahan voting.  She moved to Austin for grad school, where she played for Melee for two seasons, captaining the team in 2008 and earning South All-Region honors.  Michelle also started the Bay Area women's club team Slackjaw in 2007 and has captained the team for the past two seasons.  She was instrumental in running the Texas Women's Fall Tournament, Elite Eights, Texas Throwdown, and Centex last season.  She will also be assisting with Pres Day and Centex this year.
